Lot Description
Lot of Civil War Era & Later Militaria including: Bullseye Canteen, Excavated US Bit & German Field Glasses
American Civil War
1) Philadelphia Depot US Model 1862 "Bullseye" Canteen by Albert Dorff. Nominally 8" in diameter and stamped with 8 concentric rings, with a pewter spout marker marked *ALBERT DORFF, although most of the "DORFF" mark is illegible. This canteen is from Dorff's January 7, 1864 contract for 75,000 corrugated canteens. No cover, sling or stopper is present.
2) Excavated US Pattern 1859 cavalry bit with brass US rosettes. Two handwritten tags attached to the bit indicate it was dug near Brandy Station, between there and Kelly's Ford.
3) Brass Binoculars, late 19th or early 20th century. Marked Busch/Tena Special/Germany on the face of the nose piece. Nominally 7.5" in length with sliding sun shades retracted. Likely originally leather covered, with no leather remaining.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
