Lot Description
Philadelphia Depot Bullseye Canteen by Hadden, Porter & Booth
American Civil War
US Model 1862 "Bullseye" Canteen with the spout maker marked HADDEN, PORTER & BOOTH . PHILA. Nominally 8" in diameter with a tinned sheet iron oblate spheroid body stamped with seven concentric rings for rigidity and support. Field replaced cover with a wonderful period striped brown jean wood material. Retains a well worn folded and sewn cotton drill sling that appears to be original to the canteen and a period stopper with jack chain form the New York Depot, which is an old, possibly period of use replacement that matches the age and wear on the balance of the canteen perfectly. The Philadelphia Depot received some 379,666 seven ring "bullseye" canteens from Hadden, Porter & Booth between the summer of 1862 and the end of 1864. A great example of a mid-war Federal canteen with a nice maker's mark on the spout.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
