Lot Description

Unmarked Horseman's Saber
War of 1812

33.75" curved single edged blade with rudimentary clip point and a narrow 24" long fuller along the spine. Overall length 39". 5.25" hilt with iron backstrap and bird's head pommel with reverse-P knuckle bow. Upper guard with forward swept flat disc quillon. Grooved wood grip covered in leather with six warps of twisted wire. Unmarked, no langets. Inspired by the English Pattern 1796 Light Cavalry Saber and possibly the later M1811 Blucker saber, this may be an American made copy, circa first quarter of the 19th century similar to those sabers delivered by makers like Starr and Rose, but unmarked and likely for militia, rather than regular army use. No scabbard is present.
