Lot Description
Unmarked US Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber with Leather Saber Knot
American Civil War
35" curved, single-edged blade with 27" stopped median fuller. Blade 1.1" wide at ricasso. Overall length 41" with a 6" cast brass hilt with two-branch guard and knuckle bow and Phrygian helmet pommel cap. Grooved wood grip covered in leather with twelve wraps of twisted wire. No inspection marks noted, however the mating number 80 is stuck on the upper reverse of the knuckle bow at the pommel and on the pommel cap. Includes a correct style, lap seamed sheet iron scabbard with two suspension rings and a screw secured throat. Includes a Laidley inspected leather saber knot that has some age but may be a very high quality reproduction.
