Lot Description
US Blued & Gilt Blade Eagle Head Sword with Scabbard and Belt
Mexican American War
28.5" single edged curved blade, 1.5" wide at ricasso. Blade with 19.5" stopped median fuller.
34" in overall length with a 5.5" gilt brass Eagle Pommel hilt with reeded bone grip. Mounted with a reverse-P knuckle bow and single branch counter guard with a flat disc shaped fowled swept quillon. Blade with about 12.5" of blued finish and gilt decorated etched floral and martial motifs. Blade marked Warranted on obverse ricasso. Blade with about a 16" flaw down the center on the obverse. The sword is accompanied by its brass mounted leather scabbard and a mid-19th century belt with a mid-to-late 19th century two-piece US Eagle and wreath buckle, belt with chained sword hangers.
