Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 13 daguerreotype portraits of women holding fans and parasols, highlighted by two half plate examples, including:
Half plate seated portrait of a lovely young woman wearing an off-the-shoulder dress and a yellow-tinted neck kerchief, holding a parasol in her lap. (Some significant scratches to left and right side, rubbing with image loss to lower left, and some spots throughout, spotting to mat; original seals.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case. -- A pair of quarter plate portraits of perhaps the same two young women (tentatively identified) or different siblings, some holding parasols. (Light tarnishing to edges, some spotting throughout; both retain majority of original seals.) Housed together in a pressed paper case (some separation to spine). Ink inscription on paper note behind right image tentatively identifies the sitters as "Jennie & Carrie Chamberlain." -- And 10 others, including one half plate example and 9 sixth plate examples, many without full cases. -- Together, 13 daguerreotypes.
