Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 13 daguerreotypes of families, incl. several portraits of women and children.


Sixth plate portrait of a mother and her child, the child dressed in a jacket with piping and wearing a plumed hat. (Some clouding and minor blemishes to plate, spotting to mat; likely resealed, no preserver present.) Housed in a fuly separated leatherette case (missing closure clasp). -- Sixth plate portrait of a mother holding her baby on her lap, the baby appearing to be laughing. (Significant tarnishing to edges, significant wiping and light spotting throughout plate, spotting to mat and preserver; unsealed.) Housed in a half leatherette case. -- Sixth plate group portrait featuring 9 subjects, including a young boy. (Significant tarnishing and spotting throughout; unsealed, under mat, glass, and preserver only.) No case, hanging wire applied to back of preserver. Paper attached at back of image identifies the central figure as Wheaton Harrington and the location as the Shaw Hotel. --  And 10 others, including 2 quarter plate examples, 7 sixth plate examples, and one ninth plate example. -- Together, 13 daguerreotypes featuring families, some without cases.
