Lot 6067 | Colt Model 1877 Lightning .38 Colt Revolver Nickel Etched Panel

Colt Model 1877 Lightning Revolver with original Nickel Plated Finish, Long Knurled cylinder pin, and built without the ejector rod assembly. Though they developed a poor reputation for longevity and reliability, Colt's first production double action revolver remained in production into the early 20th Century. During its production run, the revolver had to compete with the array of inexpensive double action revolvers of Belgian and British make arriving from overseas. Never adapted for smokeless cartridges or updated to eliminate its shortcomings, the revolver still found its way into the holsters and waistbands of famed outlaws and lawmen in the Old West. This example, produced in 1879 without the ejector rod assembly and possessing the appropriate long-knurled cylinder pin, exemplifies the more compact variants of this handgun. The nickel plating and durable hardrubber grips made it suitable for carry both openly and concealed. Better still, it displays good timing, a rare sight on an 1877.

Lot 6005 | Confederate Rebuilt L.G.&Y. Contract US Special Model 1861 Rifle Musket Marked "Z", American Civil War

Although the rifles, muskets and carbines produced at the Richmond Arsenal for the Confederacy during the American Civil War are well known, less well known is the fact that the Richmond arsenal system refurbished and repaired far more guns than it produced. The LG&Y US Special Model 1861 Rifle Musket offered here is one of those "Cleaned & Repaired" guns that passed through the Confederate arsenal system. These refurbished guns were typically picked up on the battlefield after a battle, sent to Richmond for cleaning and repairing as needed and were then reissued to Confederate troops. The gun bears the Confederate "C&R" inspection mark of a "Z" in the belly of the stock, forward of the triggerguard. Additionally, close inpsection reveals that the gun is not compleltely of LG&Y manufacutre and has a Colt contract barrel. These two features, the inspection mark and mismatched parts indicate the gun went through the Confederate rebuilidng system. These guns are every bit as southern and Confederate as any gun made in the south during the war and are a wonderful way to add a Confederate long arm to your collection of American Civil War arms without spending the five-figure price tag associated wtih most Confederate manufacutred arms.
