This landmark auction featured manuscripts, letters, campaign ephemera, keepsakes, and personal effects documenting the life of Lincoln. The auction realized a total of $7.9 million with Lincoln’s presumably blood stained leather gloves bringing in a record-setting $1,512,500. Other notable items included a white linen handkerchief carried by Lincoln on the night of his assassination which sold for $826,000, as well as a gold and black enamel cuff button removed from Lincoln’s wrist on that fateful night which netted $445,000.
