English oak, walnut, mahogany, satinwood, painted and gilded furniture from the William and Mary, Queen Anne, Georgian, Regency and Edwardian periods is presented with related paintings, ceramics, needlework and more.

Renowned silversmiths and firms whose work is featured in the department’s sales include Cartier, Fabergé, Garrard & Co., Georg Jensen, Paul de Lamerie, Paul Storr, Puiforcat, Tiffany & Co., and others. The department also specializes in small objects of vertu, made for practical use from precious materials and adorned with gold, gemstones or enamel, including snuff boxes, cigarette cases, scent bottles and desk ornaments.

Our European antiques auctions also feature bronze and marble sculpture from the 17th through the early 20th century and handwoven rugs made throughout Europe and Central Asia dating from the 16th to the mid-20th century.

Recently, the department expertly handled the sale of Across Continents: The Collection of Ambassador & Mrs. Alexander Weddell, an important deaccession from the Virginia House Museum that achieved $1.57M. The department was also responsible for the sale of Property from the Fred and Kay Krehbiel Collection, which after extensive media coverage achieved $3.5M.
