Lot Description

[MONTANA]-- [DAKOTA]. A group of 5 photographs, incl. buffalo, elk, and horses, highlighted by stereoview of horse-drawn wagon outside the "Pony Saloon" in Glendale, Montana by Henry W. Brown. 


BROWN, Henry W., photographer. Glendale, MT: 1879. Stereoview of street showing “Glendale Montana Hecla Mercantile & Banking Co. + ‘Pony Saloon,’” as handwritten on verso (some soiling; some corner and edge wear to mount). A group of men are seated on a wagon in front. Mautz pg. 290.

[With:] FORSYTH, N.A., photographer. Please Let Me Out, I Want To Go Back. Butte, MT: ca 1900. Stereoview No. 20 showing a buffalo trying to break out of a corral. “Published By N.A. Forsyth, 120 N. Monat. St. Butte, Mont.” stamped on the verso.  Mautz pg. 290.  Forsyth published a series of these views of bison round-ups, and while not in this view, Charles Russell was there and is in another stereoview published by Forsyth.   

[With:] INGERSOLL, Truman Ward, photographer. Bunch of Ranch Mares and Stallion. 1882. 2 albumen photographs, each 4 1/2 x 7 3/4 in., mounted on 8 x 10 in. board (images have faded a bit; some corner and edge wear to mounts). Probably photographed on the Little Missouri Horse Company near Amidon, Dakota Territory. Mautz pg. 271.     

[Also with:] Real photo postcard of a herd of elk somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. N.d. (light edge wear). 

Together, 5 photographs, condition generally good to very good.
