Lot Description

[HARRISON, Benjamin]. Memorial ribbon to Caroline Harrison, cabinet cards, and ephemera related to the family of Benjamin Harrison, comprising:


Ad for Dr. Harter's Iron Tonic with images of Benj. Harrison, Mrs. Harrison, Russell Harrison, Mrs. McKee and Baby McKee. On light card stock. 7 x 12-1/2 in.

Black ribbon: "Memorial to Mrs. Benj. Harrison / Wife of our Honored President." with image of Mrs. Harrison,

Calling card of Mrs. Benjamin Harrison with manuscript note: Please admit by private entrance Gen. & Mrs. Williams, Miss Murphy, Mr. Arnold."

Engraved card: "General and Mrs. Benjamin Harrison acknowledge very gratefully your kind congratulations upon the birth of their daughter, Elizabeth." Caroline Harrison died of tuberculosis Oct. 25, 1892. In 1896 Harrison married Caroline's former secretary and niece, Mary Dimmick. The younger Mrs. Harrison and the former President had this one daughter in 1897. 

Four cabinet cards: one with the President and Mrs. Benjamin Harrison; one with just Mrs. Harrison; one with just Benjamin Harrison; and one with George and Martha Washington at top and the Harrisons below. At top, 1789, at bottom, 1889. Harrison was sometimes known as the "Centennial President" since his inauguration was 100 years after Washington's, which this card celebrates.
