Lot Description
[FIRST LADIES - FRANCES CLEVELAND]. A group of ephemera and photograph of Frances Cleveland, highlighted by an authograph letter signed from the Executive Mansion, comprising:
Ms. note from Frances Cleveland to Miss H. Graham. On executive Mansion paper. She writes: "Will it be too late for you to bring your friends this morning at one? Use my messenger to send them a note if you wish. I shall be very glad to see you all at that time.
I am sorry you did not enjoy Miss Hall. It was a great disappointment to me that I was unable to get to hear her. Every one spoke so enthusiastically about her. My Moher desires he Remembrance. I suppose you have had Robert Elsmere? If not let me know and I will send him to you."
With a note to Miss Williams from H. Graham enclosing Mrs. Cleveland's reply and requesting that she come for her at half past 12.

One with Hale's identification and copyright (Seneca Falls, NY, 1886) has a note on verso: "Mr. Hale I give my full permission and sanction to your selling any pictures you may desire. I will trust to your giving only the best ones Your pictures are by far the best I have ever had taken someday I hope you can try again for me. / Very truly, Frances Folsom Cleveland / June 14, 1886."
Cutouts of the Clevelands; their images on an ad for Royal Glue ("Mends Everything / Solid as Rock."); Advertising card for Lammert Furniture Company, St. Louis, with the Clevelands on verso; card advertising Merrick Thread Co., another for Household Sewing Machine co., Providence, RI; card for Gilbert Mfg. Co. (fabric); and larger card with Campbell's Baking Powder, all with the Clevelands on the cards.
Mrs. Cleveland on a Cigarette card (color). Similar-sized card for tooth polish with Mrs. Cleveland in black and white. Business card for W.F. McLaughlin & Co., coffee importers with Mrs. Cleveland on verso. Die cut with flowers, flags, doves, etc. and Mrs. Cleveland. Other advertising cards: Dr. Hoxsie's Certain Croup Cure; "Philip Best Brewing Co., "The 'Best' Tonic;" Yatisi Corsets; Sulphur Bitters; Lion Coffee; and Clark's Spool Cotton. Plus one lithographed image with no ads.
