Lot Description

[CALIFORNIA]. A group of 20  photographs and ephemera related to Pasadena, Mt. Lowe, and Echo Mountain, including the railway images, comprising: 


(1)-Mt. Lowe Railway, Calif. Fan, approx. 6.5 in. diam., wood handle. “Greatest Scenery in the World. DO NOT MISS IT.

World Famous Mount Lowe California. Chicago: C.T. & Co., n.d. (ca 1910-1920). Obl. 8 x 10 in., printed wraps with gilt, 24pp., one page of text, the rest photos of the scenery around Mt. Lowe, including the observatory.

Photograph, 5 x 8 in., Titled in negative: “392 Castle Canyon below Maple Springs, Mount Lowe Railway. F.H. Maude Photo.”

Photo of people on “Echo” – the incline on Mt. Lowe. 4.75 x 7 in. Some paper adhered to verso from being affixed in an album at some point.

8 x 10 in. photo of the Pacific Electric Railway on Echo Mountain. Matted with acrylic sheet. On verso “Top of the Great Mt. Lowe Incline.” 

8 x 10 in. photo of the entire Mt. Lowe incline. Matted.

(2)-Two 8 x 10 in. photos. One of a “horseshoe bend” on the Mt. Lowe Railway, the other of the front porch of Ye Alpine Hotel.

(3)-Photo of Sierra Madre Mountains (From Pasadena, Cal.) 5.75 x 8 in.

Large format albumen identified on verso as “First L.A. Ry.  Co. plant.” 6 x 8.5 in. on larger mount. Matted.

(other)-7.75 x 9.75in. later print of Dana Point, Blue Lantern service station and “Fountain Lunch .”
