Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY] --[AUTOMOBILES]. A group of photographs of early automobiles, mechanics and auto shops, including racing action shots, comprising:
12 photographs of an auto race in Santa Monica, CA, ca 1910-1920, all 5 1/2 in. x 3 1/2 in. except for 1 snapshot 2 x 3 in. (all adhered to black paper mount, toning, some creasing). -- Early photograph of a group of men appearing to work to repair two mangled vehicles, with inscription on verso "Something 'Bust' APX 1900-1906 / In or near Rockville, Indiana." (Scattered ink marks on mount, light contrast, wear to mount).
[With:] Approximately 30 albumen photographs and snapshots, mostly of unidentified subjects and locations, showing racing, auto shops, gas stations and attendants, and early automobiles often with owners posed nearby, ca early 1900s - 1930s. Sizes range from 8 x 10 in. to 2 x 2 in.
[Also with:] Group of 10 large black and white promotional photographs, 18 x 12 in., showcasing individual car models, men working the automobile factory line, and car showroom interiors, ca 1930s-1950s. Additional photographs including some modern reprints from earlier negatives.
