[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY] -- [TRANSPORTATION]. A group of silver gelatin and albumen photographs of steamships, boats, and harbors, including the Bailey Gatzert on the Columbia River, comprising:
GIFFORD, Benjamin A., photographer. Image of the Bailey Gatzert sternwheeler. [Seattle?], ca 1905. 10 x 4 in. silver gelatin photograph. The Bailey Gatzert ran between the Columbia River and Puget Sound in the late 19th and early 20th centuries estimated to have carried more passengers on the Columbia than any other steamer. -- S.S. Grace Dollar. LMBR from Seattle. Making Fast at Sacramento. Feb. 2nd 1914 3 P.M. Sacramento, CA: McAllister and Darke, 1914. 6 1/2 x 4 3/4 in. photograph (toned, creases). Includes a clearer copy with better tonality lacking the publisher's in negative imprint and titling. -- The S.S. Klondike Arriving at Polson, Mont. on Flathead Lake. Montana, 1918. 9 1/2 x 3 3/8 in. silver gelatin photograph (crease to upper right). Illegible photographer's signature with copyright and title in negative. -- And 12 others, including 2 modern prints from old negatives and 1 photogravure (WYER, H.S., Toilers of the Sea. 1885). Together, 16 items, condition generally good.
