Lot Description
[SPORTS]. KIRKPATRICK, Francis Marion "F.M." (ca 1882-1960), photographer.
A group of 12 photographs featuring drivers who participated in the 17th International 500-Mile Sweepstakes (Indianapolis 500) at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, 1929, comprising:
Photographs, all approx. 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. (some toned, scattered spotting). Images depict drivers posed in their race cars at the speedway, and sometimes include additional individuals, perhaps pit crews.
F.M. Kirkpatrick operated a studio at 619 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, and was the official photographer of the Indianapolis Speedway post-WWI through the late 1930s. Drivers featured in the photographs include Billy Arnold, Cliff Bergere, Lou Moore, Anthony Gulotta, Fred Frame, Ralph Hepburn, Leon Duray, Carl Marchese, Chester Gardner, and Jules Moriceau.
