Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY] -- [RAILROADS]. A group of stereoviews, albumen photographs, and other photographs related to railroads, comprising: 


Gov. Stanford. No. 1 Built By Norris & Sons. 1863. Now at Stanford. Univ. N.p.: N.p., n.d. 8 3/16 x 5 3/4 in. albumen on later cardstock mount. Inked title on image, later inscription with history to verso. Named after California's former Governor, the Gov. Stanford was Central Pacific's first locomotive entering into service in 1863. The engine pulled the first excursion train, the first revenue freight train, and the first scheduled passenger trains for the company.

[With:] A group of 7 stereoviews depicting the Mt. Washington Railway. Littleton, NH: Kilburn Brothers, [ca 1885]. Approx. 6 x 3 in. on cardstock mount, with one 6 1/4 x 4 in. Five with imprints on versos.
