Two Chinese Molded and Enameled Porcelain Snuff Bottles, Possibly Jiaqing Period

The first of tapering ovoid form, the shoulders sloping to a flared neck, the lip gilt and flat, the concave base surrounded by an oval footrim, the body molded, carved and reticulated to depict the Buddhist Eight Auspicious Symbols (bajixiang) against a cloud scroll ground, the neck encircled by small bosses above a leiwen ring, in turn above a ruyi lappet border, the footrim also encircled by small bosses, all covered by a cinnabar-red glaze, the base also glazed and with a gilt Jiaqing mark, matching stopper, possibly original.
The second of similar form, the concave base also gilt, the body molded, and well-reticulated to reveal the inner bottle and finely carved to depict on one main side a fenghuang in flight, the reverse with a dragon chasing a flaming pearl, both surrounded by stylized clouds and flames, a leiwen band around the neck, borders of lingzhi around the shoulders and base, covered overall with a cobalt blue glaze. Stopper matching, probably associated.
Height without stopper 3 1/8 in., 7.9 cm.
