Lot Description
Highly Decorated Ottoman Kilij with Engraved Metal Covered Scabbard
25.75" curved, single-edged traditional Kilij style blade, nominally 1.75" wide at the widest point. Overall length 31.25". 5.5" hilt of traditional Mamluk style with horn grip scales. 6.5" cross guard with 1.5" langets. Hilt and guard appear to be of German silver or a similar non-precious, non-ferrous metal. Both are engraved with decorative floral and geometric themes. Blade decorated with silver inlays in floral and marital motifs with a text box on the reverse of the blade that is filled with appears to be Arabic script. Wooden scabbard covered in metal of the same type that appears to have been used for the hilt and decorated with profuse amounts of floral engraving.
