Lot Description
Ottoman Kilij Sword with Wood Lined Scabbard
27.5" curved, single-edged traditional Kilij style blade, nominally 1.75" wide at the widest point. Overall length 33.125". 5.25" hilt of traditional Mamluk style with finger grooved horn grip scales. 6.5" cross guard with 1.5" langets. Hilt and guard appear to be of silver or possibly German silver or a similar non-ferrous metal white metal that will tarnish. Hilt with chain knuckle bow. Guard is delicately engraved with simple floral and geometric themes. Blade plain and unadorned. Wooden scabbard covered in metal of the same type that appears to have been used for the hilt and decorated with profuse amounts of well executed floral and geometric engraving. Scabbard with leather covering between the upper mountings.
