Lot Description
US Model 1847 Cavalry Musketoon
American Civil War
.69 caliber. 26" barrel. NSN. Bright finish, brass furniture, walnut stock. Single shot muzzleloading smoothbore cavalry musketoon with two brass barrel bands, captive swivel ramrod, no rear sight, blade front sight, 9.25" saddle bar and ring and arsenal modified three-position tumbler. Lock with standard Springfield markings and dated 1847, barrel with mismatched 1851 date on tang. The mismatch likely happened when the gun had the lock modified to add the low safety position to help keep the percussion cap on the cone. Standard proof marks at breech. No visible cartouches are present. A solid example of a fairly scarce pre-Civil War cavalry musketoon in its original configuration. {ANTIQUE}
