Lot Description
Restored British Pattern 1730/40 Long Land Pattern Musket
French & Indian War
.75 caliber. 46" barrel. NSN. Applied brown finish, brass furniture, stretched walnut stock. Single shot flintlock muzzleloading musket restored to appear correct. 1740s era "Banana Lock" measures 6.875" long and appears to have been marked JORDAN over 17?? at the tail. Crown mark on lock is intentionally defaced, with the small {Crown/Broad Arrow} still visible below the bridled and fenced integral rounded iron pan. Lock remains in original flint with some parts replaced, including the cock and at least one of the lock mounting screws. Stock drilled with a hole through the butt, above the rail, possibly for an ersatz rope sling. No regimental marking noted on the barrel, but original Board of Ordnance proofs are still weakly visible as well as a very weak crowned initial mark that is not fully legible. Stock is restored from about 4" above the entry pipe to the stock tip, with replaced furniture, but the barrel appears to be unaltered and original 46" length with no apparent welding or splicing detected with endoscopic examination. In general, defaced crown marks on these guns are considered an indication of possibly Continental use during the American Revolution. Overall a decent set of mostly original major parts, including a real lock and full length barrel that are worthy of a better restoration. Includes reproduction swivels and a reproduction brass tipped wood ramrod. {ANTIQUE}
