Lot Description

Scottish Steel Rams Butt Pistol by Thomas Murdoch

.62 caliber. 8" tapered 3-stage barrel with flared octagonal muzzle. NSN. Bright finish, all metal construction. Single shot flintlock muzzleloading pistol in the traditional Scottish form with Ram's Head Butt, swan neck cock, ball trigger, belt hook on the reverse, vent prick in butt and functional button head metal ramrod. Silver oval escutcheons are present in both sides of the grip, and the pistol is engraved with simple flowing foliate lines and Celtic geometric patterns. Silver bands are inlaid in the bottom of the pistol at the end of the grip and at the start of the barrel. The lock is engraved T/MURDOCH. Thomas Murdoch (1730-1785) worked during the mid-18th century, initially in Doune, then moving to Edinburgh where he worked in his later life. {ANTIQUE}
