Affidavit concerns the claim of a soldier's widow, Martha Reed, for arrears of pay and bounty on behalf of her deceased husband, Sabie (spelled "Saibee" in HDS) Reed, who served in Company B of the 21st United States Colored Troops. The affidavit states that Sam Gillins was present at the time of Reed's death of consumption on 18 November 1882. The affidavit goes on to correct a previous error, indicating that Gillins misspoke about his age previously because he did not know it, but since "learned it from my former owner."
