Signed by attorney Samuel Stoney, acknowledging claimant P. Gilliard Stoney's receipt of $1,900 from the state of South Carolina "for compensation for his slave, named Toby, lost by reason of the employment of the said slave by the authorities of the Confederate Government upon the military fortifications in this State."
