Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 40 sixth plate daguerreotypes of women of varying ages.
Lovely portrait of a woman seated next to a finely clothed table topped with a vase of flowers and what appears to be a thick album or volume. She is posed leaning slightly, with her elbow resting on the volume and her face propped up by her hand. (Some tarnishing and chemical wear to lower and right portions of image, image overall a little light/weak but fairly clear.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (split at spine, surface wear and some other separations). -- Crisp portrait of a young lady seated at a table, wearing a lace shawl/poncho and bonnet, and several pieces of gold-highlighted jewelry. (Few tarnish spots throughout but very clear, with good contrast otherwise, spotting to mat, no preserver present.) Housed in a leatherette case (surface wear, fading to satin pad). -- Seated portrait of an older woman wearing a bonnet, shawl, and lace gloves. She holds a pair of gold-highlighted spectacles in one hand. (Tarnishing to edges, some clouding and weeping throughout, oxidation to mat; original seals.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (split at spine, surface loss/wear throughout). -- And 37 others. Some without cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, 40 sixth plate daguerreotypes.
