Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 28 daguerreotypes housed in pairs within side-by-side cases.

Sixth plate daguerreotype pair of portraits, one being a seated bust portrait of a gentleman with curly hair and thick mustache, the other being a standing portrait of a young male child wearing a belted plaid outfit. (Tarnishing and scratching to both plates, most heavily to the man's portrait.) Housed together in an octagonal Union case with geometric/scroll design (some nicking/chipping and soiling throughout, loose closure). -- A lovely pair of portraits of young women, possibly sisters, each seated on a florally upholstered couch with a draped circular table to one side. (Tarnishing and some light spotting to plates.) Housed together in a pressed paper case (significant surface wear throughout and separation with repair to spine). -- And 12 other pairs of daguerreotypes including 10 sixth plate pairs and 2 ninth plate pairs. Many housed in fully separated cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, 28 daguerreotype portraits housed in pairs.
