Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 26 sixth plate daguerreotype portraits of middle aged and older women wearing bonnets.

Fine bust portrait of a middle-aged woman with cheeks lightly tinted pink and a gauzy sash tied around her neck. She wears a bonnet and collar that appear to match. (Tarnishing to edges, very few imperfections otherwise.) Mat stamped "M.P. SIMONS." Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (surface wear). -- Seated portrait of an extremely elderly woman wearing a bonnet and shawl, and sitting in a large wooden chair. She has her hands crossed on her lap. (Spotting throughout, spotting to mat, no preserver present; resealed.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (surface wear and discoloration throughout, fading and wear to satin pad). -- Bust portrait of a more full-figured middle-aged woman wearing a bonnet and giving the camera a slight smile. (Some tarnishing to edges, few spots throughout.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (split at spine, surface wear, soem wear/discoloration to velvet pad). Paper label attached to glass identifies the sitter as "Great Aunt Sally Reed." -- And 23 others. Some without cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, 26 sixth plate daguerreotypes.
