[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 23 sixth plate daguerreotypes of women with severe or unpleasant expressions, incl. VAN LOAN and BOGARDUS examples.
Seated portrait of a woman with a rather recessed hairline, resting her arm on the a book on the table next to her and looking directly into the camera. (Significant tarnishing to edges, some other minor spots and imperfections.) Housed in a pressed paper case (surface losses, wear) with velvet pad stamped, "BOGARDUS, ARTIST / NEW YORK." -- Seated portrait of a middle-aged woman posed with an ornate urn of flowers on the table next to her (possibly a painted prop), and looking just off-camera with a serious expression. (Some spotting and minor imperfections to plate, oxidation spotting to mat, no preserver present.) Housed in a leatherette case (significant surface wear) with velvet pad stamped, "VAN LOAN & CO'S / GALLERY / 118 CHESTNUT ST / PHILADA." -- Seated portrait of a young woman looking to the camera with a serious expression, wearing lace gloves, and holding a folded fan in one hand. (Some minor clouding to image.) Housed in a fully separated leatherette case (split unevenly at spine, with wear and losses throughout). -- And 20 others. Some without cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, 23 sixth plate daguerreotypes of women with stern or unhappy expressions.
