[OPTICAL DEVICES]. Replica Zoetrope and Praxinoscope with related materials.
Replica Zoetrope comprised of a slotted leather drum and solid brass and wooden pedestal, drum diameter 5 1/2 in., height 7 3/4 in., with 8 paper strips. Underside of drum inscribed by the manufacturer, Van Cort Instruments, Northampton, Massachusetts, 1990. (Excellent condition.)
"Hemisferium," replica Praxinoscope, comprised of a wooden base, on which a drum with 12 mirrors that produce the optical illusion, thanks to the reflection of the images, rotates in a smooth and balanced way. The drum features images inspired by late 19th-early 20th century circus imagery. Drum diameter 8 in., height approx. 8 1/2 in. with 15 paper strips. With original "Hemisferium" box and booklets issued by the manufacturer, based in Spain. (Excellent condition.)
[With:] "Wheel of Life" illustrated strip, approx. 3 1/4 x 36 in. (some toning, edge wear to strip). -- Silver gelatin photograph of Walt Disney looking at a Praxinoscope, 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. (sight), matted and framed. -- 2 modern flip books showing Eadweard Muybridge's studies of a "jumping horse" and "woman using skipping rope."
