Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A pair of portraits of armed soldiers incl. a ruby ambrotype and CDV.
Sixth plate ruby ambrotype of a young soldier outfitted in a great coat, kepi, and with belt and breast plates visible, holding a long gun in one hand and what appears to be a book in the other. (Chemical deterioration/discoloration surrounding subject and to lower portion of image.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (split at spine, surface wear/losses). -- Full standing CDV portrait of a Union officer outfitted in a frock coat with shoulder straps, rectangular belt plate, and gauntlets, holding the handle of his sword in one hand. Verso imprint reads, "Army Photograph and Ambrotype Gallery, Upton's Hill" (good contrast and tonality to image; mount with toning to lower portion and light wear to edges/corners). -- Together, 2 images.
