Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Sixth plate tintype portrait of a Union soldier with tentative identification.
Seated portrait of a soldier with his eyes barely open. He appears to hold an object, possibly his headgear, in his lap, though that area of the image is too dark to make out many details. (Image surface with some crackling and unevenness, a bit dark in places but largely clear; unsealed.) Housed in a half pressed paper case. Accompanied by handwritten notes from descendant about the likely identity of the sitter, tentatively identified as Matthew Ostry, though an HDS search found no results for that name.
William L. Taylor
