Lot Description

[MILITARIA]. 13 ambrotypes and tintypes of Civil War soldiers and other uniformed subjects.

Quarter plate tintype standing portrait of a soldier with a goatee and stalwart expression, holding his bayoneted long arm to one side and sporting finely gold-highlighted rectangular belt plate, epaulettes, and frock coat buttons. His pants are hand-tinted blue. (Some surface abrasions, bit of rusting, few bends/dents, but subject retains good clarity.) Housed under mat and preserver only, no glass or case. -- Sixth plate tintype bust portrait of an older soldier with extremely thick mustache and goatee. He wears a tarred kepi and looks, with hauntingly striking eyes, into the camera. (Spotting throughout image and mat.) Housed under mat only, no preserver, glass, or case. -- Quarter plate ambrotype seated portrait of an elderly man holding a walking stick in one hand and having a large top hat on the table next to him. He wears a double-breasted waistcoat. (Few spots and imperfections.) Housed in a pressed paper case (surface wear). -- Ninth plate tintype bust portrait of a long and thick-haired soldier with mustache and beard, looking fiercely into the camera. He wears a light blue-tinted coat. ()Very few imperfections.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (split at spine, surface wear/loss). A pair of 2-cent revenue stamps are affixed to plate verso. -- And 9 others. Most without cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, 13 tintype and ambrotype portraits.
