Lot Description
[FLAGS]. 13-star American Centennial flag with unusual star pattern. Ca late 19th century.
Approx. 50 by 103 in. wool flag with 13 double-appliquéd cotton stars hand sewn to a two-part wool canton, configured in an unusual pattern comprised of horizontal rows 3/2/3/5, machine-sewn wool stripes, with black tulle stitched to the reverse side of the topmost stripe. Cotton hoist with two brass grommets.
Possibly produced ca 1876 in conjunction with the centennial celebration.
