Lot Description
[FLAGS]. 38-star American parade flag with "Great Star" configuration. Ca 1876-1889.
6 1/4 x 9 1/2 in. flag printed on silk, the stars arranged in a "Great Star" or "Grand Luminary" configuration, machine sewn on each side.
The 38-star flag was introduced on 1 August 1876 when Colorado became the 38th state, just 28 days after the official centennial celebration. The flag remained at 38 stars until the addition of five states in 1889.
