[CIVIL WAR]. Surgical kit manufactured by G. Tiemann & Co., New York. [Ca 1860s-80s].
Wooden case with brass inlay, including unmarked brass cartouche, overall 16 3/8 x 7 1/4 x 4 3/4 in., with divided interior lined in velvet bearing affixed red and gold label reading "G. Tiemann & Co. / Manufacturers / of / Surgical Instruments / 67 Chatham St. N.Y." Both halves of case include 2 levels of storage by manner of removable trays revealing additional instruments below. Kit contains nearly 50 instruments, many with Tiemann's mark, including a bone saw, set of knives, forceps, a variety of probes of various sizes, and many others.
