Lot Description
[CUSTER, George A. (1839-1876)]. [POWERS, D. E., photog.]. Last known photograph of Custer and Spotted Tail at the Grand Duke's Mess Tent. Omaha, NE: E.L. Eaton, 1872.
Stereoview on cardstock mount, verso with printed title, "No. 6. Gen. Custar [sic] and Spotted Tail at the Grand Duke's Mess Tent," and credit to E.L. Eaton, Photographer, Omaha, Nebraska, and D.B. Powers, Operator. A view capturing Lieutenant Colonel Custer and Spotted Tail together in front of a tent, January 1872.
UNIQUE: The last documented photograph of Custer, and the only example of the stereoview known to exist. This stereoview is illustrated in D. Mark Katz's Custer in Photographs (1990), and is catalogued as an "unpublished stereoview, courtesy of William M. Lentz, Jr. (K-158)." With small inventory sticker affixed near top left corner of mount.
