Lot Description
[LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865)]. CDV featuring a large crowd gathered before Independence Hall as part of the Lincoln funeral in Philadelphia.
CDV of an outdoor scene showing a large crowd of mourners gathered before Independence Hall in Philadelphia, PA, on cardstock mount. Uncredited.
Though we could locate no other CDV examples of this image, a stereoview version appeared at auction in 2013, with stamp on verso for J. W. Queen & Co. of Philadelphia.
As part of the funeral tour through several major cities, Lincoln's body lay in state in Independence Hall in Philadelphia from 22-23 April, 1865. The next and final stop would be Springfield, IL, where the slain president would be buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Estate of David O'Reilly, Old Bridge, New Jersey
