A Pair of Japanese Myochin School Iron 'Armor Plates', Meiji Period
Meiji Period (1868-1912)

One signed Myochin saku; each plate of arched form, with iron sheet backing, pierced twice, one worked in repousse with two dragons, one ascending, the other descending; the other plate with a warrior on rockwork surrounded by jars on a promontory facing a dragon among crashing waves, probably referring to the tale of Susanoo and Yamata no Orochi.
Height of Each 20 1/2 in., 52 cm.
