A Japanese Hirado Blue and White 'Birds and Insects' Water Jar and Cover, Mizusashi, Meiji Period
Meiji Period (1868-1912)
A blue and white porcelain jar and cover, finely painted in underglaze cobalt blue with a continuous scene of flowering plants and birds. The body is centered by a magnificent pheasant perched on rockwork, surrounded by smaller birds in flight. The domed cover is surmounted by a finely modeled tiger-form finial.
