Lot Description
[Early Printing] Augustine, Saint, Bishop of Hippo. Septimus Tomus Operum d' Aurelli Augustini Hip
Basil: Heirs of Froben, 1542. Folio. Text in Latin in two columns; capital spaces with printed guide letters; printer's device on title page and final blank. Contemporary pigskin over wooden boards, decorated in blind, metal clasps, lacking one clasp on rear board, very minor worming, significant rubbing resulting in binding split at rear, soiling; partial loss to inner corner of front free endpaper; contemporary ownership inscriptions on title-page; some minor worming to prelims and concluding leaves; toning; soiling and spotting throughout. Augustine of Hippo was considered to be one of the most prolific authors of his time, with more than one hundred individual titles credited to his name. The present volume comprises 33 texts which mainly deal with the Donatists and Pelagians, both groups about which Augustine wrote numerous texts accusing of heresy.
