The Summa Theologica was completed shortly before Saint Antoninus's death in 1459, and was first printed in 1477. Drawing heavily upon the earlier writings of Thomas Aquinas, it was divided into four parts: the first dealing with the soul, the second with sin, the third with work, and the fourth with the cardinal virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit. These writings are considered to be foundational texts in the realm of moral philosophy.
