Lot Description

[MILITARIA]. [BRADY, M., photog.]. Sixth plate daguerreotype of a militiaman holding a plumed shako.

Fine full standing portrait of a mustachioed militiaman, posed in full uniform including gloves, cross chest straps, epaulettes, and sword. He holds his large, plumed shako to one side. Image features fine red hand tinting. (Tarnishing to edges, few minor imperfections, otherwise crisp, clear image; reglazed and resealed 1996.) Housed in a leatherette Mathew Brady case with lyre design and "M. B. Brady / Case Maker. N. Y." on front cover (general wear, surface losses, some separation to spine).

Extensive conservation information included on new seals along with a note that the image is original to the case, and that the image comes from the Elizabeth Douglas Benning Estate, Atlanta, GA.
