Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR]. Ruby ambrotype portrait of a militiaman wearing 1851 shako with pompon and letters "WR"

Sixth plate seated portrait of a young militiaman in full uniform including rather tight-fitting jacket, fringed epaulettes, oval "US" belt plate, gloves, and M 1851 shako with pompon and letters "WR" visible. He also cradles what appears to be a sword in the crook of his arm. (Some scattered losses to image, spotting; unsealed.) Housed loosely in a fully separated pressed paper case (split at spine, significant losses, separations).
