Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR]. 6 "Brady's Album Gallery" photographs incl. one of an unburied deceased Confederate.

4 photographs, approx. 4 x 3 in. or larger, mounted on cardstock with Brady, Gardner, or Gardner & Gibson copyright printed to lower margin (2 also with Snow & Roos's San Francisco imprint). Versos each bear "Brady's Album Gallery" labels numbering and captioning each image, including: No. 405. Court House or City Hall, Yorktown, Now used as a Hospital—May, 1862. -- No. 462. Moore House, Yorktown, Where Cornwallis signed [indecipherable]. -- No. 551. A Contrast! Federal Buried, Rebel Unburied, Where they fell at the Battle of Antietam. -- No. 584. Bridge Over the Antietam, On the left wing, which was carried by Burnside's Corps, after a severe struggle. -- Together, 4 mounted photographs. Conditions generally fair.

3 7/16 x 2 1/8 in. photograph mounted on cardstock with Brady's copyright printed to lower margin. Verso bears "Brady's Album Gallery" label identifying the image as No. 413. Gateway, Yorktown. Verso also bears purple ink stamp for "Brown Brothers" of New York City, along with pencil inscription instructed that "This original must be returned to Brown Bros." -- 4 x 2 3/4 in. photograph mounted on cardstock with Brady's Album Gallery label on verso identifying the image as No. 472. Redoubt Thrown up By McCarthy Near the extreme front, at the Battle of Fair Oaks. -- Together, 2 mounted photographs. Conditions fair.
