Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Two illustrated albums, incl. Yale and University of Michigan.


11 3/8 x 9 1/2 in. album (lacking covers) containing approx. 95 engravings and approx. 12 salt prints of faculty, staff, and students, presumably all representing Yale University. The engravings of the subjects are accompanied by facsimile signatures below. Also included are autographs and personal inscriptions from some of the subjects, many addressed to "Schmucker." The autographs and inscriptions date from the 1830s to the early 1860s. (Some pages clean, some with light to moderate spotting.)

[With:] 12 x 10 in. album, spine with gilt lettering, "University of Michigan," "Class of '72." Front cover identified to "Matthew Tschirigi Jr." (surface wear and some loss to covers). Contains approx. 42 albumen photographs, approx. 5 1/2 x 4 in., mounted recto on album pages, showing faculty, staff, and students from the University of Michigan, many identified in the lower margin of the album page. Group shots of the "Engineers of '72" posed with their equipment and the "Class of '72" are also enclosed. (Condition of photos vary, from good to very good. Some with toning, occasional soiling).
