[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Large collection of assorted tintypes incl. large group portraits, bicyclists, & Edison Institute images.
Over 160 images ranging in size from gem-sized images to plates measuring 6 3/8 x 8 3/8 in., featuring large groups, trios, pairs, and individual portraits of men, women, and children. Highlights include: A large format image of a family standing just outside of what is likely their store, bearing signage designating its ware including oil cloths and window shades. -- A CDV-sized image featuring a group of four women wearing hats and posing with playing cards fanned out in their hands. -- A sixth plate-sized image of a middle-aged bearded man wearing a shirt featuring a portrait of Grover Cleveland and a belt featuring text reading, in part, "Cleveland." -- A CDV-sized image of a man and woman posed standing in a studio with their bicycles next to them. Housed in a paper sleeve with penciled inscription at top reading, "Hillsdale Fair 1895." -- A CDV-sized image featuring two woman sporting early versions of sunglasses. -- And many more. -- Together 160+ tintypes featuring people, including many groups.
