Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 25 assorted sixth plate daguerreotypes of men.

Head-on portrait of an elderly man looking directly at the camera. (Clouding, bit of tarnish, few spots to plate.) Housed under mat, glass, and preserver only. Mat stamped "REESE & CO. 289 BROADWAY." -- Seated portrait of a rather aged man seated next to a table surmounted by a thick volume or album. (Spotting throughout plate and mat.) Housed in a Union case. Etching to back of plate reads, "H L Stout / Fort Scott / Kans." Blue ink inscription to case interior reads, "My Grandfather / David Stout / Age about 80 / W. H. Stout." W. H. Stout likely refers to William Herr Stout (1837-1908), whose paternal grandfather was David Stout (1768-1858). -- And 23 others. Some without cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, 25 sixth plate daguerreotypes featuring men of varying ages.
