[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 22 assorted daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintype portraits.
Quarter plate daguerreotype portrait of a young girl seated next to a table. The girl wears a dress with pleated bodice and has rings on at least 3 of her fingers. (Image somewhat clouded and tarnished, light weeping to glass, spotting to mat.) Housed in a half pressed paper case (surface wear). -- Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a lady identified on calling card accompanying image as "A. E. Newton," aged 23 in 1850. (Some tarnishing to edges, few spots and specs.) Housed in a fully separated leatherette case (discoloration, wear). -- Sixteenth plate oval daguerreotype portrait of a young lady with her hair worn down in curls, sporting an off-the-shoulder dress and a decently-sized cross necklace visible against her skin. (Heavy tarnishing, a few other imperfections.) Housed in an oval blue velvet push-button case (significant wear and losses). -- Ninth plate ambrotype portrait of a woman housed in a fully separated case marked for "Mr. George Ruff/ Artist and Photographist / 45 Queens Road Brighton." -- And 18 others including 7 sixth plate daguerreotypes, one sixth plate ambrotypes, 5 ninth plate daguerreotypes, 3 ninth plate ambrotypes, and 2 tintypes (one loose plate, one housed under glass and preserver only. Some without cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, 22 assorted images of people.
